PREDAL PRIX TRIKES
TAKE YOUR RACING TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Meet Orcinus, a new generation of Pedal Prix trike, designed and developed by Jeff Nielsen. Inspired by the raw speed and precision of the orca, Orcinus is engineered to deliver a true competitive edge on the track.
At its core is a sleek, monocoque body crafted from Kevlar and carbon fibre, eliminating the need for a traditional steel frame. This advanced construction creates a trike that is incredibly lightweight, exceptionally rigid, and built for pure speed. Every curve is purposeful, every line refined for aerodynamic efficiency.
TRIKE SPECS
TRIKE CONSTRUCTION
Orcinus is constructed from Kevlar and carbon fibre, eliminating the need for a traditional steel frame. The fairing, frame and seat are all one moulded resin-infused piece, making the trike lighter, stronger and more efficient.
HATCH
Orcinus comes with two interchangeable hatches as standard, made of resin-infused reinforced Carbon fibre. With two hatches, teams can have the next rider’s setup pre-mounted and ready to go. Pit stops become seamless, swap the hatch and go. No gear swap delays, no windscreen cleaning, just valuable seconds saved when it matters most. Each hatch is fitted with two water bottle holders and a Garmin mount.
GEARING
Each Orcinus trike has a front-wheel drive system designed for maximum performance, featuring a shorter chain loop and reduced overall weight. The result is a more direct transfer of power, minimising energy loss and allowing riders to maintain higher speeds with less effort. As standard, Orcinus comes equipped with 10-speed Micro Shift gearing. Orcinus can be set up with 9, 10, 11, or 12-speed gearing options.
STEERING
Orcinus is operated by two side stick tillers connected to the Front Wheel Drive system. As Orcinus runs on a limited slip solid front axle, wheel alignment is not an issue as the engineering ensures that each trike has perfect permanent alignment. The central drive line eliminates any potential for torque steer, providing a very smooth, non-twitchy riding experience.
CRANKS
At the heart of rider adaptability is the Infinite Rapid Crank system, fully conceived and developed by Trilogy. This innovative system allows riders to fine-tune their position within 100mm in seconds, with precise adjustments made quickly and easily by the rider themselves. From primary school competitors to adult racers, Orcinus delivers a perfect fit, every time. To achieve this crank system, each Orcinus is fitted with bespoke Trilogy Trikes designed cranks and Look/Shimano road pedals.
BRAKES
The Orcinus is fitted with independent front brakes. Due to the front wheel drive system, this is currently a disk brake system. Trilogy is testing a hydraulic braking system, which may become standard in future builds. Stay tuned!
WHEELS & TYRES
Orcinus is fitted with 16inch 50mm wide rims as standard with 16 inch Greenspeed Scorcher tyres. Trilogy uses 50mm rims as the greater connection with the track means less tyre wear and improved rolling resistance, giving the rider more control and speed.
SAFETY
The trike is manufactured using a single infusion method, creating a continuous carbon/Kevlar reinforced roll cage that extends seamlessly from floor to roof, eliminating structural weaknesses caused by join lines. All seat belt mounting points, equipped with a Hemco four-point harness, are fully integrated into the infusion, ensuring secure and immovable attachment in every trike.
The Orcinus shape has been designed to avoid flat surfaces and straight edge transitions. Instead, it uses continuous, reinforced curves to improve load distribution and overall structural stiffness. This reduces stress concentrations commonly found at straight joins and large flat panels, lowering the risk of buckling, collapse, or crush under load.
With the rider’s position remaining fixed through the Infinite Rapid Crank system, movement is limited to the legs rather than the body. This allows the majority of the rider to remain enclosed within the carbon/Kevlar fairing, enhancing safety. Additionally, this design maintains consistent weight distribution, reducing the risk of flipping that can occur when rear trike weight is insufficient.
The rear wheel is fully enclosed within the fairing, positioned behind a removable seat panel. This design prevents objects from entering the compartment, eliminating the risk of lost items, hair or clothing entanglement, and potential injury caused by contact with the wheel.
The front wheels and front wheel drive system, including derailleur, wheels, brakes and chain, are fully enclosed to prevent rider contact.
BESPOKE DESIGN FEATURES
When racing, a crucial element is airflow and rider visibility. Trilogy has integrated this need into the design of Orcinus by developing an airflow system into the structure of the trike. As air enters the nose, it is funnelled through moulded channels in the roll frame up over the windscreen and windows, keeping them clearer for rider visibility. The air is also pushed up the channels to the top of the hatch, providing cooler air flow over the rider before being pulled out the rear of the trike through a reverse venturi.
Orcinus has a completely removable hatch system. As two hatches are provided as standard, in wet weather when misting can be prevalent, each rider can begin with a completely clear hatch and full visibility. If damage occurs to a hatch, but not the body of the trike, a hatch can be replaced alone, cutting down on trike repair costs significantly.
The Orcinus also incorporates a completely redeveloped front-wheel drive system. By eliminating the need for a long rear chain, power transfer is more direct and efficient. This results in improved responsiveness and performance that can be immediately felt by the rider.
Due to Trilogy designing a removable hatch and front wheel drive trike, accessibility to critical components is effortless. Removal of the hatch exposes all maintenance and repair elements of the drive assembly so that issues can be seen and addressed with ease. Removable panels on the front and rear wheels, and a specialised Trilogy Spaner and Axle Remover tool with each full trike purchase, ensure changing wheels is efficient. Routine race maintenance and repairs can therefore be performed without the need to remove multiple components or deal with restricted access.
