Trilogy Trikes Driving Force

Jeff Nielsen is the driving force behind Trilogy Trikes — its face, mind, and maker. With over 30 years of experience racing Human Powered Vehicles, he brings a deep passion for the sport, combining athletic dedication with a love for trike engineering.

Jeff discovered his passion for Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) competitions, known as Pedal Prix, at the age of 13. He was captivated by the excitement of designing and working on trikes, the atmosphere of race day, and the unique relay-style team format. With participants ranging from primary school students to those over 50, the inclusive and competitive nature of the events drew him in completely.

Starting with his school team, Jeff not only raced but quickly became involved in trike design, construction, and maintenance. These early experiences taught him that success wasn’t just about fitness—it required smart, efficient engineering. After high school, Jeff continued racing with club teams and took on ambitious solo challenges, pushing the limits of what trike and recumbent bike racing could be.

In his twenties and thirties, Jeff broke several world records in the sport, including:

  • Australian 12 Hour Record - 490.25km

  • Australian Land Speed Flying 200 Meter Record - 82.66km/h

  • Australian Trike 1 Hour Faired Record - 61.81km

  • World Fastest 1000km Record - in 21 hours and 21 minutes

  • World Solo 24 Hour Distance Record - 1107km

  • World 1 Hour Unfaired Trike Distance Record - 42.189km

  • World Tandem 24 Hour Distance Record with Tim Marquardt - 1015.32km

This, plus his yearly involvement with Australian Pedal Prix Event teams, meant Jeff was able to develop unique knowledge about what shapes, components, and structural materials worked best in trikes. Trilogy was born when Jeff found that his innovative engineering ideas were not matched with existing Trikes.

With Trilogy Trikes, Jeff has created frame-free bikes of Carbon and Kevlar that eliminate unnecessary weight and drag, re-engineering all bike components to streamline their use and efficiency for the rider, and creating new shapes and systems to ensure rider comfort and speed. Now in his forties, Jeff has continued to compete in Pedal Prix events annually, as well as pushing himself physically in the sport. He trains and races with his team to participate in multiple yearly event meets, and rides solo weekly. This continued high-level participation and competitive involvement mean he is constantly refining his designs and developing new concepts to stay at the forefront of innovation as both the sport and trike technology evolve. Jeff, as a high-level rider, can test and modify all of his Trilogy Trike models with a competitor’s knowledge and needs before bringing them to market. Jeff, therefore, brings a unique firsthand lived expertise to his trikes.

Trilogy Trikes brings Jeff’s extensive knowledge and experience to life in custom-built, innovative, and accessible trikes—perfect for personal use, competitive events, or Pedal Prix teams.
